“A Year in Maine” is an abstract acrylic painting that depicts the daily temperature changes in Bangor, Maine for all of 2019. I documented the high and low temperature of each day and averaged them together, then painted a line in the corresponding color. Some lines are thicker than others because of streaks where the temperature stayed the same for a few days in a row.

This painting was a huge undertaking, and took anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours a day. I don’t know if I would do it again, but I am in love with how it turned out. It can be interesting to see all the different changes Bangor experienced in a year!

This piece was awarded Best in Show at the Bangor Art Society 2021 Open Juried Show.
